Star Stable Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Do you have a question about how to play the new Star Stable game that isn’t in the online Helpfile?

Members have already asked these questions, below, and maybe your question is here. Check back frequently as we will post new Q&As as we receive them!

Q: I need help finding the stable when I go out riding on Star Stable. I try using the map, but it never gets me back to the stable. Is there a way you can find the stable on the map?

A: Look for a blue dot that shows a repeatable quest (taking care of the horses). Head for that blue dot and it will usually be the stable where you can do your chores and earn more Stable Points.

Q:  I was jumping in an indoor arena, and I took off too soon and the jump got caught between my horse's legs. He reared and some how fell beneath the dirt in the arena. Now he is under the floor and all I can see is his head. If I get on him I can only go backwards. I have tried dismounting, shutting the game off, and buying a new horse.

A: It sounds like the jump just got in your horse’s legs and threw the game for a loop. What you will have to do is go to your last save point and try the jumping quest again.

Q: Why can't I go to the gray shaded part of the map?

A: You can travel in the gray part of the map but the Quests are not there. The gray areas are simply beyond the Star Stable world.

Q: On the bottom of the screen there is a bar labeled XP. In the character sheet, there is an area labeled XP points. What are these and what are they for?

A: These are player Experience or XP points you accumulate to level up and get better in the game.

Q: How can I tell how much money I have?

A: In Star Stable, you can see your total Stable Points in your character sheet. It says SP and then the amount of points you have. When you shop at the store, you’ll see a $ sign in green when you have money. If you’re broke (and need to do more quests), then you will not see the $ sign in your store.

Q: How do I delete a game?

A: Right now there is no way to delete a game. We are checking with the programmers to see if there is another way.

Q: What does the orange bar at the bottom of the screen indicate?  Progress of a quest or level?

A: Progress of Level.

Q: Why does the horse always seem tired?  Even with a lot of grooming, sleep, and feeding of turnips and fescue grass (I think this is supposed to help with discipline?), it is always neighing, sighing, and wanting to stop.  We have changed horses to be even with our skill level but it doesn't seem to have really helped.  Also, a couple of times I noticed that it stopped acting that way.  We didn't have to keep hitting the arrow button constantly to keep it from stopping or decreasing its gait, but I don't know why that happened.  It was nice when it did, but I don't know what we did to make it do that?  This is frustrating to have to continuously hit the arrow button to keep it going.  Can you please help us with us?

A: The horse is normally not tired (it depends on how hard you push it). If you keep at normal gallop you should be fine. Also, if your horse has a high discipline it will keep its gait for a longer period of time without any need for you to push it. Remember that your horse may change gaits or speed at any time by itself like a real horse.

I would feed the horse fescue grass (for discipline) and the turnips just before mounting and riding off, so that I'm riding the horse while the counters are still going.  After doing that once or sometimes twice, it stopped being (acting) so tired.  It didn't change its gait at all.  It would do just as I commanded.  That was a relief and made it easier to win races. from Lori F.

Q: On the person's character sheet there are skills listed and a "+" button on the right side.  If you click on the "+" button it decreases your skill points listed at the bottom but increases the green bars.  I thought this meant that you were increasing your skill capacity and when you did things like groom your horse, train your horse, or even purchase and wear certain apparel (i.e., riding boots say "Riding = + 2") it would give you skill points for doing these things.  However, that doesn't seem to be happening.  It seemed like the only time we got more skill points was when we completed quests.  Is that right?  If so, what does the apparel mean by "Riding = +2?"

A: The items give a bonus to the skills (not shown on the green bar). The green bar is the current skill level in that skill – the larger the greener bar, the better you are in that skill.

Q: Changing horses - do we need to change horses when our level increases so that our horse's level matches or exceeds ours?  Can you give us tips on that?  Like I said before, we have changed horses to match our new skill level and it didn't seem to make any difference in the horses endurance or behavior.

A: The horse’s endurance and behavior varies depending on breed and how well trained they have been. The green bars in the horse's character sheet indicates the current attribute level for the horse. A horse that has a high level is an indication that that horse has a great potential.

Q: There is one quest that we can't seem to complete.  We can't figure out where Sheltering Sky is and we need to save the game at that place to be able to complete that quest.  Is there a way to tell where that is or do we just ride around and keep playing until we happen upon it?

A: The Sheltering Sky save point is the Shelter just to the right of the Quest Giver in the Forest.

Q: “Go grab our lending kit. You need a helmet, boots, and riding pants.” We have figured out how to dress the rider but now the man is asking for the rider to go get the lending kit and a rider's clothes are required. The rider is dressed in rider’s clothes now and we don't know how to proceed. Can't find the "lending kit"... help!

A: The lending kit is the clothes you receive from the girl. Just talk to the man again and he’ll ask you to get dressed. Since you are already dressed you should be able to talk to him again and then continue.

Q: I want to un-install the game, but it won't let me. Followed instructions as to uninstall application "application failed because d3dx9_28.dll was not found". Re-installing the application may fix this problem. I did all this and still won't work.
I have a Dell DXP061, with Vista but I'm running WindowsXP as the main program. It had a Intel Duo processor. It has 378.0GB of free space and all the latest graphic card updates. Please advise as how to fix this problem. Thanks

A:   You should run the DirectX Installer at the end of the installer. Doing this installs all necessary files. If you didn’t run the installer the first time you installed the game, you might need to uninstall the game and then run the installer again.

Q:  When carrots, radishes, or fescue grass is feed to the horse a timer starts counting down in the corner.  What is happening for this period of time?

A: This is the period of time during which the horse receives the bonus indicated in the item description.

Q: I got a level 2 horse and it’s not as good as my level 1 horse. It can’t go as far as my other horse did while walking, trotting, and galloping.

A: If your horse has been watered/fed and is still slower than your old horse, you may want to try changing to another horse when you get enough Stable Points. The different horses all vary in their skill set and perform differently as a result.

Q: My horse is stuck on a mountain and can't get off. What do I do?

A: If your horse rears and/or falls down a mountain, that means the incline is too steep for your horse. Try going on a more gradual route to get to your destination. To get out of the area, try backing up or going back down a gradual incline. If you can’t go anywhere, you will need to start from your last saved point.

When my horse gets stuck on a mountain, I hit the space bar and left or right arrow key at the same time and the horse turns and changes directions.  Then I'm able to go down at a more gradual angle. from Lori F.

Q: I cannot get my girl to change into her riding gear.  Can you explain how to do so, so I can have a chance to ride?

A: You can buy new clothes at the different stable shops. To use the clothes, move them from the backpack to the character sheet. For instance, move new riding pants to the place for pants. Instructions for dressing your character are also found at www.pony4kids.com in Bobbie’s Blog.

Q: How do I get in the saddle to ride my horse?

A: Hover your cursor over the saddle. When a saddle icon appears, click on it. Then you will be seated in the saddle. Do the same thing to unseat your character from the saddle.

Q: I can't beat the gold cross-country. My horse either stops dead, rears or I get a red screen adn it takes 5 seconds until I can move. When I get to the end, my time is 1:30. It says I got the medal, but I got back to the restart or OK buttons. I think it might be a glich because I do nothing wrong. Please help.

A: We don’t understand exactly what you explain is happening and we have no other members that have reported the same problem. Please accept our apology for not being able to help. Has anyone out there encountered something similar, and if so can you explain it for this member?

Q: I can't beat the game steeplechase by Valendail – the one with the guy in the woods that you picked up trash for. I run my horse at the fastest speed there is for the whole time and my horse’s wellbeing and energy bars are full and my horse is feeling great, and I don't hit any jumps or miss any checkpoint jumps and at the last jump before you go into the last green arrow my clock skips 20 or 30 seconds ahead and says time has run out, even though my time is really 20 or 30 seconds under the time limit. Please help me figure out what is wrong and how to win the game.

A: I can sympathize with the problem the girl is having in Valedale that has also happened to me while trying to win that cross-country race.  It was also happening to me in the other race across the bridges for the stable girl in Valedale, but then I discovered I had gotten off the route and wasn't going the right direction.  I finally won that one.  Maybe that's the problem?  I don't know.  If I figure it out I'll let you know. from Lori F.
