Thank you for all your questions about our dear horse, Chica. Here are some answers to your questions from her trainer, Inger.

What does Chica get to eat each day?
Inger: She gets over a gallon of concentrated feed plus some corn, vitamins and vegetable oil. She also gets alfalfa and straw. (In Spain it is very common to give the horses alfalfa as it is better quality than Spanish straw.)

  What is Chica's favorite food?
Inger: She eats most things you give her and her absolute favorite is carrots.

Is Chica good with the blacksmith?
Inger: Chica is very sweet when the blacksmith cuts her hooves and puts on new shoes, but she is a bit concerned about her hind legs. She gets a little nervous but she is a good girl if the blacksmith has lots of patience.
Comment from the Editor: When we found Chica in September 2006, she had a deep wound on her right hind leg. Something gave her that wound that she can not forget. That may explain why she is so concerned about her hind legs.

How is it to ride Chica?
Inger: Chica is a very special horse to ride. She is quite stressed and energetic and it is hard for the rider to calm her down. She doesn't have a hard mouth, so you have to have soft hands when you ride her. It is not difficult to stop her, but she doesn't like to stand still.

Does Chica like to walk in the water?
Inger: Chica loves water and really enjoys herself when we go for a walk to the salt lake close to the ranch. She walks with alert ears and her tail lifted.

What does Chica love or hate to do?
Inger: She loves when only she and I go for calm, nice walks. She hates when things stress her, she prefers everything to be calm and pleasant.

Best regards,

Inger
